From the Mayor's Desk

Welcome to the City of Springfield, Florida.  Our city is located between the cities of Panama City, Callaway and Parker in Bay County with close access to shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City Beach and Mexico Beach, home of the world’s most beautiful beaches are close by.

The city officials, staff, and citizens are working together with many federal, state, and local agencies to redevelop our city, not for today, but for many years in the future. The different plans may be viewed on our Public Works tab.

Our city is on the move with commercial business, residential units, and annexations planned for our future growth.  A new city complex, which will include our Police Station, Fire Station, City Hall, and Public Works at one location, and a new Civic Center will be breaking ground in the near future.

We have over 3,000 Affordable Workforce Housing units in various stages of either planning, architecture, or building in progress.  This will assist in not only our current and future growth needs, but also the influx of airmen as Tyndall A.F.B. reopens.

The city's  recently completed Outdoor Fitness Court and yoga pad at our Springfield Gardens Walking Park, located at at Transmitter Road and 7th Street has brought another meaning to fitness, with activities on and off everyday.  The recently installed lighting has allowed for evening  and early morning hours workouts.  The Outdoor fitness court will be named "Haddock Fitness Court"  in memory of Commissioner Dennis Haddock who passed while serving his community.

The City has recently completed  an upgrade of all our existing sewer lift stations and several feet of both gravity and force mains.  Currently we have started our new FDEP Grant for Infrastructure which includes water, sewer, storm water replacements, and road paving in the 14th street area and our Bay Harbor area will start after this phase is completed.  Please pay attention to and abide by all Maintenance of Traffic signs and detours, and watch out for equipment and personnel.  Worker area safety is a must.

At this time we are still working with FEMA, FDEM, and FDEO for funds on several projects and grants for the city complex, civic center, hometown revitalization, nature park, and Buddy McLemore football field and park as well as Martin Lake Restoration.

UPDATE:  As of October 23, 2023 FEMA has stopped all City Projects until an Environmental Assessment has been completed.  The city has met our State requirements and waiting on FEMA for over 500 days for the approval to proceed, then they came up with another requirement.  The city will get whatever they need done as soon as possible to get our projects back on track.

Our Everitt Middle School will be demolished within the next 90 day per Bay District Schools.  We do not know when they will build another one, if they build anything.  Please contact BDS and let them know we need our education back in Springfield and get out middle school students out of Rutherford High School.  Our students deserve as much as beach students.

Check out out calendar for future events, closures, and meetings to keep up to date on what is happening in our city.

I am proud, honored and thankful for our city, staff, team members, and citizens.  Through their visions, efforts, and planning the City of Springfield will be a city of the future.

If we may be of assistance or you just want to stop by for a visit, please contact us and we will lead you in the right direction.
