From the Mayor's Desk

August 13, 2026

Welcome to the City of Springfield, Florida.  Our city thrives primarily as a residential city featuring two scenic walking parks, Martin Lake boat ramp access, and a sports complex with baseball and soccer fields.  At Springfield Garden walking park, the city proudly hosts Florida's first Outdoor Fitness Court Studio, recognized as the World's Best Outdoor Gym, and a new playground area.  Future plans include 5 new parks:  North Springfield Neighborhood Park, Douglas Road Dog Park, Nature Trail Park, which is currently under construction, Cherry Street Linear Park, Carrie Bell Shaw Outdoor Center featuring new Pickle Ball Courts, covered pavilion and picnic areas.  Our city is located between the cities of Panama City, Callaway, and Parker in Bay County with close access to shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City Beach and Mexico Beach, home of the world’s most beautiful beaches are close by.

The city officials, staff, and citizens are working together with many federal, state, and local agencies to redevelop our city, not for today, but for many years in the future. The different plans may be viewed on our Public Works tab.  The city's dedicated Public Works Department maintains roads, parks and utilities, while our community-focused Police and Fire Departments ensure safety and security.  Springfield has launched its third SRF Water and Sewer Rehabilitation Project to modernize our infrastructure for the future.  Our City Administrative Staff is always available to help you with any of your needs or direct you in the right direction.

Our city is on the move with commercial business, residential units, and annexations planned for our future growth.  A new Government Complex, which includes our Police Station, Fire Station, City Hall, and Public Works at one location is now open for business, located at 1121 Transmitter Road.  Our new Civic Center is under construction with a Grand Opening scheduled for October 7, 2026, along with upgrades to several smaller parks and recreation areas.

The city is working on several new future projects to include Buddy McLemore Park picnic area and basketball courts, Buddy McLemore football field and concession area, and a new combined Library and Senior Center to replace the old library and city hall located at 408 School Ave.

We have several Affordable Workforce Housing units in various stages of either planning, architecture, or building in progress.  This will assist in not only our current and future growth needs, but also the influx of airmen as Tyndall A.F.B. reopens.

We have completed another FDEP Grant for Infrastructure which includes water, sewer, storm water replacements, and road paving in the Bay Harbor area.   Currently we are in the design & engineering phase for two (2) more phases which should start construction start later this year.

Bid opening for our CDBG Streetscape project for School Ave. are due to be opened September 2, 2026, with construction to start soon afterwards.

We are also working with FSU and other agencies to clean up and restore our Martin Lake tributaries. Baskerville-Donovan, Inc (BDI) has been awarded the engineering phase for the project

Check out calendar for future events, closures, and meetings to keep up to date on what is happening in our city.  We encourage residence to attend our Commission Meetings and Workshops to learn what is going on in your city and express your ideas and concerns.

The new school year has just started.  Please be aware in school zones and watch out for students walking to and from school, watch your speed and for school buses stopping.

I am proud, honored and thankful for our city, staff, team members, and citizens.  Through their visions, efforts, and planning, the City of Springfield will be a city of the future.

If we may be of assistance or you just want to stop by for a visit, please contact us and we will lead you in the right direction.
